VALLE DE BRAVO (POPULATION 55,000)
Valle de Bravo is a municipality in the State of México located on the shore of Lake Avándaro, approximately 145 km (95 miles) south west of Mexico City. It takes about 2 hours to drive from Mexico City to Valle de Bravo. Lake Avándaro was once farmland, flooded by a dam that was built to produce electricity for Mexico City. The old town was flooded many years ago. It is a very beautiful place and usually called the "The Mexican Switzerland". It is mainly a weekend resting place for people coming from Mexico City and is a world-class paragliding mecca.
The colonial architecture of the town has a central plaza, arts & crafts and food markets, gourmet natural-food stores, art galleries, and up scales craft shops. Many shops are closed during the week. Most streets are lined with cobblestones.
The lake and large pine forests, complete with extensive dirt paths, make the area popular for outdoor activities, including: biking, hang-gliding, sailing, water-skiing, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, and of course motorcycle riding; motocross and Enduro.
In terms of climate, one can expect a daytime temperature in the 80s Fahrenheit from March-June, at night dropping to the low 60s. The rainy season lasts from June until the end of September, and temperatures can rather be unpredictable.
